Most blind people would give their eye-teeth to see again - and that's exactly what one grandmother did. Sharron Thornton has vision again for the first time in nine years after undergoing ground-breaking surgery in Miami, Florida. In a first for the USA, the 60-year-old - known as Kay to her friends - has had one of her canine teeth implanted into her most severely damaged eye. These images show the science behind the operation, performed at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr Victor Perez was the lead surgeon.
